PCSO News
From April 1st 2006 all Metropolitan Police Community Support Officers must have the wording'Police Staff' on their ID Cards which they carry at all times. This is a result of a meeting held between the Met and TFL senior officers regarding police staff travel issues.
It is hoped that this will clear this issue up as staff who now carry the ID Card bearing 'Civil Staff' can no longer have free travel on the London Bus Network.
PCSO shot in Portsmouth.PCSO Sean Hopkinson was on a routine patrol in the Buckland area of Portsmouth when he was struck on the head with a plastic ball-bearing.Police who investigated the incident seized an imitation Heckler&Koch G36 semi-automatic gun from a 12 year old youth.PCSO Hopkinson had just previously confiscated some alcohol of a group of 15 youths when the incident happend. He then heard the sound of the BB gun and felt the pellet hit the back of his cap.He said "I felt shock more than anything it was just the sheer audacity of it that was the biggest thing.I'm in uniform but I don't know if they realise I haven't the same powers as an officer.Since then I have been getting jibes from the kids in the area making clicking noises like a gun going off.The gun looks so realistic and that is why I have been getting so many calls about kid's on the streets with them."
I am looking to interview Sean personally about his thoughts and what it is like to be a PCSO in Portsmouth, check back here for further details soon.
