A Westminster based PCSO sent this in. It's that time of year again, lets hope we are not overlooked for a decent pay rise.As PCSO's we do the following:-Single/lone patrolling.patrolling estates including stairwells, patrols at night, dealing with ASB,cycling on the pavement, mobile patrols, home visits, crime prevention, high level security patrols, issuing FPN's,assisting in custody, detention of suspects and community engagement,we do all this and more without defensive equipment, squeezed in between civil staff and police officers.

We do not have our own rules and regulations or pay structure,we wear a uniform which has more in common with a parking attendant than the job we do.We need a 20% pay rise to reflect the job we do,despite an endless list of obsticles we have to contend with.We live and work in London which is the third most expensive city in the world to live in.If we cannot get a 20% pay rise this year after 4 years of PCSO service to law and order in London then we must need better representation than we have at present

We have now received this. I also think that we should have a 20% pay rise,do we expect doctors or nurses to do their job without medical equipment,do we expect teacher's to teach without books or computers,do we expect builders to work without tools or machinery? No we do not.

But when it comes to PCSO's then yes, they can be ignored all they need is a silly hat and a notebook.

We need and deserve that 20% pay rise to acknowledge the job we do,if we cant get this then perhaps we need a better union.PCSO (HACKNEY,LONDON.)

Dear Editor

Having just read the newsletter I was impressed with the content.

I am a PCSO in Westminster, and have just heard that the Home Office is considering having special police community support officers, as they do with

police officers Has anyone else heard this, and what is the general opinion.?

Keep up the good work.
